With Halloween just around the corner, North Texas has certainly managed to scare up plenty of fun this weekend, including Thundercat, John Mayer, rap battles, rock stars, country crooners, and more.

Shakey Graves

October 26, 8 p.m.| Longhorn Ballroom

Shakey Graves, the alias of Alejandro Rose Garcia, started as a one-man band. In recent years, the act has evolved to include a full band that brings Garcia’s blend of folk, blues, and rock to life. His latest album, Movie of the Week, started as a soundtrack for a film. When the movie project died, he turned the songs into a new album. Fun fact: Shakey Graves’ website offers an album generator that pulls from demos, outtakes, alternate versions and more that allows listeners to create their own 10-track album. Get tickets

Chris Stapleton

October 27, 7 p.m.| Dos Equis Pavilion

Chris Stapleton will make another stop in Dallas for his All-American Road Show tour, hitting Dos Equis Pavilion with Nikki Lane and Charley Crockett. After a bout of bronchitis forced a pause earlier this month, the eight-time Grammy Award winner seems fully recovered. Expect plenty of hits, including “Tennessee Whiskey,” “You Should Probably Leave,” and “Broken Halos.”   Get tickets

KISS

October 27, 7:30 p.m.| Dickies Arena, Fort Worth

Speaking from personal experience: If your girl’s name is Beth, absolutely do not dedicate KISS’ song “Beth” to her. It is not the romantic gesture you think it is—the authors even admit that it was written to make fun of a bandmate’s wife. It’s a “sorry, I’m in a band, so I’m allowed to ignore you” song. Anyway, KISS is playing in Fort Worth this weekend, and they say it may be their last tour. Maybe go see them. Use “Beth” as a bathroom break.  Get tickets

Thundercat

October 27, 8 p.m.| South Side Ballroom

Soul and funk bassist Thundercat snagged a Grammy in 2021 for his most recent album, It Is What It Is, but that doesn’t mean he’s been resting on his laurels. He appeared on the 2023 Grammys with Steve Lacy, and more recently teamed with Tame Impala on the single “No More Lies”—his first single in three years. He’ll bring his In Yo Girl’s City tour to the South Side Ballroom Friday night. Get tickets

Día de los Muertos Festival

October 28, 11 a.m.| Latino Cultural Center

The Latino Cultural Center will host it’s 20th annual Día de los Muertos Festival Saturday, with workshops, local art exhibits, an artisan vendor market, and performances by Ollimpaxqui Ballet Company and Mitotiliztli Yaoyollohtli and live music from En Pie De Lucha. Get details

El Último Puesto: Clasificatoria Nacional

October 28, 3 p.m.| Centre for Dance, Richardson

The Red Bull Batalla USA National Finals will come to South Side Ballroom next month, but before that, one last competition will be held this weekend. One Latino MC will round out the field of 16 competing in November. Dallas’ battle league Urban RapStars and Red Bull Batalla will host 60 rappers Saturday. The event is free.

Grupo Frontera

October 28, 8 p.m.| Dickies Arena, Fort Worth

Grupo Frontera snagged their first Latin Grammy nomination this year for their Bad Bunny collaboration, “Un X100to.” Since then, the Texas-born group has broken streaming records on Apple Music, and won a Billboard Latin Music Award for “Bebe Dame.” Get tickets

John Mayer

October 28, 8 p.m.| American Airlines Center

Fresh off a tour with the Dead & Company, John Mayer will do a solo show at American Airlines Center this weekend. The singer-songwriter will hit the highlights—songs from his first album like “Why Georgia” and “Waitin’ on the Day” are popping up on set lists—but if you’re lucky you might catch one of Mayer’s mashups, too, like this combination of the Grateful Dead’s “Dark Star” and “Your Body Is a Wonderland.”  Get tickets

The Mountain Goats

October 28, 8 p.m.| Longhorn Ballroom

Led by singer-songwriter John Darnielle, The Mountain Goats have been recording music since 1994, first with Taboo VI: The Homecoming, and later with concept albums like All Hail West Texas. Their latest album, Jenny From Thebes, is a rock opera about a woman named Jenny—the same Jenny that has been referenced in previous songs. Anna Tivel opens. Get tickets

DJ Spinderella’s Halloween Boo Bash

October 29, 4 p.m.| Lava Cantina, The Colony

If you’re looking for Halloween fun and plenty of hip-hop to go with it, DJ Spinderella (of Salt ‘n Pepa fame) will be providing the tunes in The Colony Sunday evening, along with performances from Paul Wall and Twista. Get tickets

Luis Miguel

October 29, 7 p.m.| American Airlines Center

Puerto Rican-Mexican singer Luis Miguel has been a fixture on the Latin music scene since he was a child in the 1980s, winning his first Grammy at the tender age of 14 with the duet “Me Gustas Tal Como Eres” with Scottish pop singer Sheena Easton. Since then, he’s become one of the best-selling Latin music artists of all time, with more than 100 million records sold worldwide. The last time he was on tour was in 2019, so his fans have been waiting for his return. Get tickets
