We Outside: A Guide to Weekly Dance Parties in Dallas

Don't be afraid to go out on Sunday, because nightlife is back.

Last updated: 6/16/21

The streets are back open and I wanna dance with somebody—as long as they’re vaccinated or maintain a safe social distance, because it’s still a pandemic out here. However, we all deserve to have a night or two of fun with an escape to the streets, where cheap tacos and heavy drinks await. In preparation for this listicle, I spent the last three Sundays in these streets (for journalistic research) to give you my picks for the best weekly dance parties in Dallas. For Sundays and beyond, below are your best options.

(If you want your weekly to be featured or have a recommendation, please feel free to shoot me an email or invite me out…TO THE STREETS. This post will be updated as necessary, so bookmark it.)

DJ Christy Ray

DJ Christy Ray has not only one, but three residencies for you to pop out at! For a mid-week twerk session, stop by The Pool Club at Virgin Hotel Dallas on Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Where else you can enjoy $1 Champagne with views of the Dallas skyline by the pool? To start the weekend off right, catch her at the Twilite Lounge on Friday from 10:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Then, back to Virgin Hotel Dallas for a Saturday night cap at The Commons Club from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Jamz at Ruins

Sundays are the new Saturdays. DJ Blake Ward’s rotating lineup of DJs makes you want to call out on Monday morning. The award-winning DJ curates a weekly showcase of the city’s best for attendees at Ruins in Deep Ellum.

Meet Me Underground at Curfew in Fort Worth

*Cue Stefon’s voice from SNL* Fort Worth’s hottest dance party is Meet Me Underground. This Monday night party has everything: ’90s deep house, techno, country, and an anime club. Actually, I’m not sure if they have an anime club (someone report back to me). But their rotating lineup of local and national DJs are worth the late night drive over to Curfew on 350 W. 5th St in downtown Fort Worth.

DJ Rizkilla

Friday belongs to DJ Rizkilla. Get in the Friday night vibe with her at the Commons Club in Virgin Hotel Dallas from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. Grace her with your presence at the Living Room at the W Hotel from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Sadie Hawkins Dance at Charlie’s Star Lounge

The Sadie Hawkins Dance / In my khaki pants / There’s nothing better. May the immemorial words of Relient K, an unsung icon of the mainstream pop-punk era, guide you to DJ Ursa Minor’s Sunday weekly at Charlie’s Star Lounge in Old East Dallas. Minor, the “undisputed king of R&B,” transforms the renovated dive bar into the sensual, romantic, and fun dance of your middle school dreams. I know, because when Minor played Pretty Ricky’s “On The Hotline,” my inner preteen screamed! Order a frozen cherry limeade from the bar and sing your heart away to classics of the past, such as Tevin Campbell’s “Can We Talk?”

Shake It Fast at the Nines

Show me what you’re working with on a Saturday night! DJ Kmor and DJ Imperial D take over The Nines Bar in Deep Ellum. Get your knees ready for a lot whole twerking and possible WAP on the dance floor?

Stick Together Thursdays

If you haven’t been to a DJ Save Aves set, have you been outside? The official DJ for Das Glue transforms Ruins in Deep Ellum into her personal dance party. From 6 p.m. – 9 p.m., DJ Save Aves spins alongside her favorite DJs. This week—that would be June 17—she’s joined by BoyBlk and Drnrdx.
