EVEN THOUGH it is still in the design phase, the new sports complex has already spurred new confidence from investors and activity from developers. And rightly so. The arena and its surrounding development will tie the West End to Uptown, creating a vital, vibrant area of Dallas out of a once-abandoned tract.

FINALLY, THERE’S a sensible solution to the Trinity River, and it’s even cost effective. Dallas’ contribution of $246 million will be matched by state and federal funds totaling $953 million to provide flood protection, relieve traffic congestion, and create a recreational destination for the entire city.

the arts district

THE CITY blocks on the north end of downtown should provide a focal point of culture and art for the city-and a destination for the world. With the promise that public money will finally complete the district, private donors and investors are already stepping forward. Now what’s needed: a new, multipurpose performing arts center.

AN UNEXPECTED surge in demand is recasting the central city as the hottest place in the region to live and play. This excitement and activity is remaking Dallas. Already lofts, apartments, and condominiums are filling to capacity even before construction is completed. With the activity brought on by the new arena, the Trinity’s recreational attractions, and the Arts District’s cultural events, the trend will only pick up, sparking retail, restaurants, and after-hours entertainment. Downtown Dallas will once again be the capital of our region.
