Darrell “Delite” Allamby produced a No. 1 hit for Janet Jackson and Busta Rhymes, produced the platinum-selling Gerald Levert and fellow R&B legend Keith Sweat. “People might not know my name, but they know my music,” he says. Allamby’s been living relatively unnoticed in Dallas since 2002, when he grew tired of New York and decided to raise his newborn in his native Texas. From his studio on Main Street in downtown, he talks about his production philosophy and work ethic. “I like to be in control of the entire process,” he says. “I have to make tracks hot whether it takes 40 hours or five minutes.” This month, check out the new Bobby Valentino disc and the new Gerald Levert, the last album made before his death in November. Allamby produced both.
