Don’t waste your time trekking from wine shop to wine shop searching for New Zealand’s Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay this year. The answer will inevitably be “No! We couldn’t get any cases.” The problem: restaurateurs have purchased all of the cases available in Dallas for their wine lists (there are only 3,000 cases of the Sauvignon Blanc for the world). The Sauvignon Blanc is classic, with a luscious passionfruit nose, crisp citrus that cleanses the palate, and a lingering finish. Pair it with spicy Asian dishes, salads, and seafood. The Chardonnay is elegant without being overwhelming. It was fermented in tanks, but aged in oak. Toasty, buttery notes are balanced with ripe fruit. Go ahead and try this with beef, game, pork, and seafood. Of course, you’ll have to make your way to some of the best restaurants in town to get a sip. Hibiscus (2927 Henderson Ave., 214-827-2927) lists a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc at $68 and the Chardonnay for $59. Also look for the Sauvignon Blanc at Truluck’s Uptown and Kirby’s Steakhouse on Greenville. Hurry, it goes fast.
