The annual American Institute of Architects home tour will make its return this November. While we’re anxiously waiting to hear which beautiful Dallas homes will be on this year’s docket, AIA has been kind enough to quench our home ogling thirst with a few teasers. Stop by every weekday morning through September 23 to glimpse a new lovely corner and read explanations from the talented architects behind them, then go on the hunt for them in person, when the 9th annual AIA Dallas Tour of Homes kicks off November 14. Can’t handle the wait? Starting September 25, you can head to www.hometourdallas.com to see the close-ups we’re featuring paired with photos and information about the entire tour home.

ARCHITECT EXPLANATION

By, Dan Finnell: AIA, Est. 11 Architecture

Announcement of a rebirth.

Originally built in 1961, and having only changed ownership 2 times in 54 years, the homeowner’s midcentury ranch could have been considered a candidate for demolition. Thankfully, our clients saw otherwise. In the whole-home remodel, the entire front entry was modified to change the entry sequence, quality of light, and curb appeal. The new cedar privacy screen, entry courtyard, and storefront dining wall beyond now allow natural light to extend deep into this residence that had previously been closed to the community and engagement.  This announcement detail provides visual recognition that this home has become a renewed member of the community.
