When it comes to politics in South Dallas, a constant thorn in the side of Council-woman Elsie Faye Heggins are activists Peter Johnson and Robert Pitre. In a September 5 Dallas Morning News article, Johnson said of Heggins, “She has no agenda. She has no plan. It’s reactionary politics. Whatever the white people do, she reacts to it.” The two men also stated that they are seeking a candidate to oppose Heggins in the 1983 City Council election. It will not be the first time Heggins has butted heads with Johnson and Pitre. Currently, Heggins and Pitre are in a lawsuit over a used car she purchased from him in 1978.



The word around North Dallas is that Lawrence Herkimer, president of Cheerlead-ing Supply, is considering running for Dallas City Council, Place 4, now occupied by Rolan Tucker. Herk-imer says he won’t make an official decision until the first of next year. Also, Jerry Rucker, of Rucker Construction Company, is toying with the idea of running for either Place 3, currently held by Joe Haggar, or an at-large seat.



After performing at Reunion Arena in October, Fleet-wood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood put in an appearance at Chaparral Grand Prix, an entertainment race track. Besides the fact that Fleetwood loves car racing, he made the trip to the track because he’s a major investor in the company that owns the track. Another investor is fashion expert Beverly Sas-soon, the ex-wife of hair stylist Vidal Sassoon. Sas-soon is currently promoting her book, Beauty for Always and is working as an active member of MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers).
