Things To Do In Dallas Tonight: Sept. 2

The Texas Theatre gets a little trashy for its free Tuesday night movie; Jason Mraz plays the Winspear.

As Labor Day comes and goes, I’m reminded of a favorite song with the comforting refrain that “Tuesday’s just as bad.” Considering I was brunching in Houston yesterday morning at an excellent spot in the Heights called Down House, waking up today for a measly lemon pound cake at a coffee shop chain downtown makes today seem even a little worse. But we have work to do, and so, we trudge on.

Speaking of which, our expert Dallas-recap artist stayed up late into the holiday night for our summary of the latest episode, and you can read all about that over on FrontRow.

If you’re looking for something free to watch tonight, however, the Texas Theatre will host its own “TNT,” which in this case stands for the truth-in-advertising event, “Tuesday Night Trash.” The selection for this evening is Stunt Rock, and it will largely depend on your opinion of the rock opera-plagued 1970s as to whether or not you’re interested. This actually sounds more appealing than many of the films that make the theatre’s “TNT” series. The film is free and that begins at 9:15 tonight. A record-listening party will take place in the bar once the credits roll.

Squeaky clean singer-songwriter Jason Mraz will be at the Winspear this evening, and even though he called one of his albums Love is a Four Letter Word, you can rest assure you’ll hear very few of those if you attend. Note: He’ll perform again at the same time and place tomorrow night as well.
