…the many varieties of lupine tend to be highly regional in nature. Here we have lupinus texensis or l. subcarnosus (the ones most commonly recognized as Texas bluebonnets), as well as the lesser-known l. plattensis, l. perennis, l. havardii, l. concinnus and l. caudatus. L. perennis, or sundial lupine, grows in the Northeast also. Either that or the bigleaf lupine (l. polyphyllus, which doesn’t grow here) would have been your best bets for growing something bluebonnet-like in New York.

Lady Bird called you a “damned fool?” She was not only gracious and elegant in life, she was perceptive.
