In September 1985 ground was broken for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s future home: the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. The $79 million Meyerson Center will house the Eugene McDermott Concert Hall as well as restaurants and meeting rooms. Scheduled to open in September of 1989, the Meyerson Center has been designed by architect I.M. Pei and acoustician Russell Johnson. It is interesting to note that early funds raised through the Showhouse project went to the $500,000 pledge by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra League, the Junior Group, and The Innovators to pay for the Musicians’ Lounge in the new hall. In recognition of these efforts, the Musicians’ Lounge will be named in their behalf.
