MAVS GUARD SHOOTS MOUTH, SCORES FINE

|

Darrell Armstong was so happy that his Redskins won on Sunday that he asked the crowd at the ACC before the Timberwolves game, “How ’bout them Redskins?” The team fined him $1,000. This raises an interesting question: if you play for one of the local teams, are you never allowed to voice your support publicly for any non-local team? Or is it just bad if you do it over a PA system? Could a member of the Rangers say in a newspaper interview that he liked the Packers?

I guess what I’m saying is, What Armstrong did was dumb. From a business standpoint, you don’t want your players alienating the fans. But was it a fine-worthy offense? Hardly. Just like when Steve Nash wore that anti-war t-shirt. Players are allowed to have opinions, even if they’re unpopular opinions. I think a better response would have been to have Armstrong go through one practice with the Cowboys this week.
