When I Went: July 4-8, 2012

Was That the Best Time of Year to Go? We visited in the middle of summer, which was not ideal, but there was something very special about spending the Fourth of July in our nation’s capital. Best time would be late summer/early fall for cooler weather.

Why I Went There: My boyfriend’s brother was graduating from Officer Candidacy School in the Marine Corps in Quantico, Virginia, so we used this as an excuse for a getaway to D.C.; neither of us had ever been.

Who Went With Me? My boyfriend Jake

We Stayed Here: Henley Park Hotel

You Won’t Want to Miss: Make sure to visit the National Mall and soak up all of the great museums and monuments. I think they mean a lot more as an adult versus when I visited as a fifth-grader.

Eat Here: Founding Fathers.  AHHHHMAZING! Our waiter actually told us that President Barack Obama and his wife frequent for date night.

Play Here: Rooftop at the W Hotel. BEST view of White House and great people watching.

If I Went Again: Probably go later in the summer.

How Did You Get There From Dallas? We fly Delta from DFW-IAD.

Other Tips For Fellow Travelers: I had very low expectations and was completely blow away by the city, the people, and the culture.  A very cool destination that seems to be overlooked sometimes.
