Happy New Year my D Home blog friends! I’m thrilled to be back at the wheel again for this “Feather Your First Nest” column. 2013 has all the promise of something great, and I’m so happy to be here experiencing it with you.

If I could guess, I would say that you’re in the early throws of trying to create and keep your New Year resolutions… Am I right? Lose weight, get in shape, be more focused, earn a promotion, find your dream job… it’s all on the table now! One of my resolutions for the year is to simplify. We’ll see how that goes!

A close cousin to the simplification idea would definitely have to be organization. If you’re working with a small living space, like I am, then you know the tremendous help (and challenge) organization can be. And if you’re also like me, then you just may have a magazine collection that is verging on the brink of ridiculous! So, when I came across designer Carolina Gentry’s brilliant and simple solution for storing her magazine collection, I just had to share. She had neatly-stacked collections of magazines cleverly hidden under a few chic accent chairs. Orderly and out of the way… the perfect solution for those of us suffering from lack of shelf space. And the best part about it? Simplicity at no additional charge!

For more small-space organization ideas, take a look here.
