The Dallas Women’s Foundation announced the recipients of its Maura Women Helping Women and Young Leader awards on Friday, recognizing several area women for their achievements in leadership and improvement of the lives of women and girls in Dallas-Fort Worth. The Maura Award has been given annually since 1978, and the Young Leader award has been acknowledging breakthrough leadership by women under age 40 since 2013.
“Each of the 2014 Maura Award recipients exemplifies women’s leadership and an absolute dedication to creating and advancing opportunities for women and girls,” Roslyn Dawson Thompson, the foundation’s president and CEO, said in a press release. “Likewise, our 2014 Young Leaders are remarkable trailblazers for the next generation who are finding new ways to drive positive change for women and girls.”
Recipients of the Maura Women Helping Women Award were Debbie Dudley Branson, an activist and attorney with the Law Offices of Frank L. Branson PC; Lauren Embrey, founder of the Embrey Family Foundation; Helen Holman, president of Holman and Associates LLC; Retta Miller, partner at Jackson Walker; and Guathami Vemula, founder of Color Me Safe LLC.
Recipients of the Young Leader Award were Dr. Myiesha Taylor, founder and president of Artemis Medical Society, and Brittany Merrill Underwood, founder of the Ugandan American Partnership Organization and the Akola Project.
