Welcome to your numerically insignificant Thursday. Fun things with which to while away your evening hours await.
For one, there’s Dallas Morning News‘ film critic Chris Vognar’s monthly comedy series. He’s screening Annie Hall, obviously a favorite, and I should tell you that the advance reservations are already full. Still, you can rush it–seats should be available if you show up at the Angelika early enough. The screening, which starts at 7:30, is free and there’s beer. Vognar leads a discussion after the movie. Post that, I’d drop by The Libertine for a cheese plate and a French 75.
Speaking of comedies, the Texas Theatre is showing another great, though totally different, one: a 35 mm print of the The Jerk, which happens to be Steve Martin’s first starring role. I also love that Bernadette Peters is in this. Anyway, Martin, who also co-wrote the script, plays an imbecile who, after discovering he’s not black like the rest of his family, runs off on an insane adventure that includes a carnival, a serial killer, and a bizarre invention that leaves him filthy rich. Dining options abound in North Oak Cliff. If you’d prefer music to movies, Spune Productions present the Dallas edition of their annual Christmas show at the Loft this evening. Bands on tap include The Cush, The Eastern Sea, Bethan, and Eric Harvey of Spoon.
