Eight More Games For Little Mavs: Sweep sweet, but the job’s not finished.

Obama To Make Play For Texas: A Democratic presidential candidate hasn’t taken Texas since Jimmy Carter 35 years ago. But Wayne Slater reports that Obama is going make a serious effort to win the state. His campaign manager has already been dispatched to Austin.

Meet The Real Urban Pioneers: The fence surrounding Tarek Omar’s 90-year-old house on Gaston Ave. was burned down by neighbors. Patricia Simon and Kyle Collins share a property line with a drug house. David Smith bought a problem apartment building and then discovered it was largely uninhabitable, so he razed it. These are real urban activists: “We said if we keep talking about how important Gaston is and how important it is to stabilize it, we have to walk the walk as well as talk the talk,” Smith said.

Natural Gas Drillers Move To Out-Flank Drill Site Neighbors: So much for grass roots democracy: Those pesky citizens concerned with safety, pollution, and other public health issues who are making it difficult for natural gas drilling companies to gain municipal approval may be brushed aside now that the big drilling guys have gone over the little guys’ heads, seeking legislation at the state level.

Obama vs. Osama: Copyeditors’ Worst Nightmare: When it comes to typos, to say I live in a glass house is an egregious understatement. But, it has almost become a sport these past two weeks to notice how often — mostly on TV and radio —Osama bin Laden’s name has become “Obama bin Laden” during news broadcasts. Today, that little slip-up makes it to print: “U.S. demands to interview Obama bin Laden’s 3 widows.” Making things more confusing, the photo with the story shows an Obama effigy being burned in Pakistan. The headline has been corrected, but it is enshrined in the URL – and here’s a screen shot from earlier.
