The goal of any good guest space should first and foremost be comfort. “The idea is to make the guest feel like they are at home,” says Duro Hospitality’s Benji Homsey. But that’s not to say style should take a backseat. In fact, argues Yates Desygns’ Bryan Yates, it’s a great place to take some design risks. “You can take chances because you’re not in them every day,” he says. Having just outfitted some seriously hospitable digs, Homsey and Yates share their must-haves for any guest space.

It’s All About the Little Things

  1. A Superb Shower: “Water pressure is so important.” —Benji Homsey
  2. Plush Towels: “For Stay Love List, we got white Pottery Barn towels and had dyed them pink.” —Bryan Yates
  3. A Good Night’s Sleep: “Get a great mattress with nice linens.” —Benji Homsey
  4. A TV: “We love the Samsung Frame TV because it doesn’t look like a TV.” —Bryan Yates
  5. Creature Comforts: “A robe and slippers, Niven Morgan amenities, and a Marshall bluetooth music player.” —Benji Homsey
  6. Board Games: “I love Jenga, Codenames, and Cards Against Humanity.” —Bryan Yates
Remember:

Don’t skimp on scent!

“Scent is such an important part of entertaining in your home,” says Jeremi V. Headrick, who owns Society by Jackson Vaughn candle shop with Pamela Jackson. But what’s the magic formula for a welcoming fragrance? “A bit of a familiar scent with a twist,” says Jackson. “The familiarity to make them feel at home—and the twist to let them know they are in for a fun time! Think warm spices and herbs with a shock of patchouli or amber.”
