Dr. Sara Chen recently joined Dr. Sowell in his longtime, established practice. A recognized dental specialist with advanced training, she is a certified cosmetic prosthodontist and brings her advanced training in cosmetic and complex restorative cases to patients who are seeking improved function and beauty in their smile. “We share similar treatment philosophies and provide a similar standard of care for our patients,” Dr. Sowell says. “Her award-winning and extensive cosmetic work will be an asset to new and existing patients.”
Dr. Chen completed her undergraduate degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in brain and cognitive sciences, then completed her doctorate at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. She also received a Master’s of Science degree during a three-year advanced prosthodontics residency program at the University of Illinois in Chicago to specialize in complex restorative, implant, and cosmetic cases. Following her residency, she became a certified specialist in prosthodontics. Dr. Chen has been published in prestigious dental journals regarding her research in ultra-thin ceramic dental restorations (crowns and veneers), which are some of the top cosmetic dental services the practice is known for. She was also recognized by the American College of Prosthodontics, winning first place in the John J. Sharry competition for her work with minimally invasive all-ceramic restorations. Dr. Chen has also served as faculty at Texas A&M College of Dentistry.

For 30 years, Dr. Sowell has been a nationally recognized expert in the fields of cosmetic, implant, and restorative dentistry and is considered a master in his field. In fact, he is one of 40 dentists worldwide to have achieved mastership status from The Academy of General Dentistry and to earn accredited membership with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He is also a Fellow of the International Academy of Dental Facial Esthetics and a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. These professional distinctions are important to note, as they require thousands of hours of continuing education to achieve and often enable him to offer turnkey treatment for complex cases.
While these recognitions illustrate Dr. Sowell’s dedication to providing the best that dentistry has to offer, he has achieved numerous other merits in the field of dentistry, including being named of the Best Dentists in Dallas in D Magazine, a Super Dentist by Texas Monthly, and a Best Dentist in America by Woodward/White. Because of his relentless commitment to excellence in all aspects of dental care, Dr. Sowell is often asked to lecture to other dentists and attends hundreds of hours of rigorous postdoctoral training each year. He is a visiting faculty member of Spear Education, where he travels to Scottsdale several times a year to teach other experienced dentists advanced treatment planning and design of reconstruction procedures and cosmetic dentistry.
