Dallas knows Ylang 23 as the area’s go-to jewelry store when shopping for unique pieces that are anything but the norm—a curated mix of jewelry collections from the world’s top original, contemporary designers. This has been Ylang’s niche since 1985 when Joanne and Charles Teichman opened the store in the Dallas Galleria.

In the past two decades, the rest of the world likely discovered Ylang 23 online, as it was the first designer jewelry company to launch an e-retail store in 2000. With one click, Ylang 23 delivers what’s new and next to jewelry lovers around the world. And wherever you travel this summer, you can take Ylang 23 with you. Now is the perfect time to stop by the Plaza at Preston Center store to begin or add to your collection to be styled by Ylang 23 experts.

Alysa Teichman, Charles and Joanne’s daughter, is a part owner of Ylang 23. She says the key to its longevity and success is an eye for what people want and superior service. “We’ve been at this a long time,” Alysa says. “Ylang 23 has always been trend-driven, and our 40-plus designers have all been at the forefront of the jewelry industry for decades. It’s not just the assortment of designers and jewelry we offer, but the way we approach serving customers and the relationships we have cultivated through the years that set us apart.”

Upon entering the Ylang 23 boutique in University Park, you can’t help but feel special. This is intentional, Alysa says, because a large part of the entire Ylang experience is the service customers receive—from assistance with styling your new jewelry and creating a collection to pair with your favorite outfits to learning how to layer Ylang 23’s pieces or combine them with other jewelry, as well as learning how to keep your jewelry sparkling.

“Our customers trust us and appreciate our commitment to service; we offer a level of service that is a cut above,” Alysa says. “When you have customers that you have worked with for so many years, you get an intimate understanding about what they want. Often, we get a sense of what they want before they even know it themselves. We love seeing how they wear their pieces and working with them to find new pieces that fit their lifestyle. That’s always been the vibe in our store.”

A second-generation business owner, Alysa is always on the hunt to bring the latest styles and trends from fashion-forward designers to Ylang 23’s customers—Foundrae, Irene Newirth, Sydney Evan, Marla Aaron, and Cathy Waterman are a few of the world’s top contemporary jewelry designers who work closely with Ylang 23. Behind the scenes, Alysa focuses on managing the growing business, attending jewelry shows to bring fresh looks back to Ylang 23, and lining up a full roster of trunk shows. She also opened one of Dallas’ first piercing studios, Wildlike, several years ago as a “sister store” to Ylang 23. “Ylang’s presence in Dallas remains strong,” she says. “And there’s good reason for that.”

Among those reasons? Personalized recommendations from the owners of Ylang 23. Here, Alysa and Joanne share their favorite summer travel destinations and the jewelry pieces they would pack that not only suit their personal tastes but will stand out in each destination.

Alysa’s Favorites:

Napa.

“I’m bringing elevated basics for all day wine tastings at my favorite wineries! I just love trouncing around the little towns and the giddy feeling of one-too-many glasses of red.”

Comporta Portugal.

“I spent a dreamy few days in Comporta last summer for a friend’s wedding. It’s sophisticated and laid back, but in a hidden way. I would definitely pack my favorite pieces by designers over the pond, like my Globetrotter Beads by Ileana Makri, my Lito hand-painted enamel eye, and these L’Atelier Nawbar hoops, which are on my ‘want’ list!”

Southern California.

How can I not go to LA & Malibu without a few of my favorite pieces by Californian designers in tow?

Joanne’s Favorites:

Hamptons.

“Last summer’s family trip to the Hamptons reminded me of visits in my 20s. Laid back, with a heavy injection of New Yorkers calls for unexpected jewelry picks, like a Ghostrider skull from Julez Bryant, a Sword pendant from Cathy Waterman, and to remind everyone where my allegiance is, a beaded boot bracelet from Sydney Evan.”

Aspen.

“I love Aspen in the summer; it’s a wonderful food destination and people-watching scene where I can’t walk a block without bumping into someone I know. I’m packing Foundrae and Nouvel Heritage polished gold and Lizzie Mandler diamond hoops to wear with my jeans.”

Patmos.

“We spent a magical trip to Patmos, and it is calling us back next summer to share Ileana Makri’s homeland. I’m packing fun jewelry, including another Globetrotter beads necklace from Ileana, Sunny hoops from Raphaele Canot, New Dawn New Day ring from Retrouvai, and a delicate new fringe necklace from Lee Jones.”
