Fans spoke and Midnight Rambler listened. The Best of Big D-winning subterranean bar at The Joule just announced it’s bringing back its theme park cocktail menu for a limited time only. Concepted by cocktail expert Gabe Sanchez and team, the menu reflects Dallas’ rich musical history.
“When people build menus, they’re usually focused solely on themselves,” says Sanchez. “We wanted to do something different and start outside ourselves, looking to Dallas and its vibrant nightlife for inspiration.”
The menu, which first debuted last summer, took more than six months to create. Mixing, shaking, and sipping, Sanchez and team looked to local musicians and legendary haunts for inspiration, including Stevie Ray Vaughan, Kirk Franklin, and Gypsy Tea Room. They also workshopped ways of utilizing Texas-specific ingredients in new ways. “Bad Luck Blues,” devoted to Blind Lemon, stars Texas whiskey, grapefruit, mesquite bean powder, and sumac seed. “The Other Selena,” a tribute to the famous Selena mural in Oak Cliff, features Calamity Gin distilled with bluebonnets and Texas wildflowers.
For the menu itself, Midnight Rambler tapped artist Blake Wright to illustrate a map of the city in amusement park fashion, outlining the artists and musical destinations in their respective neighborhoods. Enjoy it for a limited time before the bar ushers in its newest creation. For more, follow @midnightramblerbar on Instagram.
