The numbers tell the success story of Key-Whitman Eye Center. The practice has been serving North Texas for more than 60 years, and Dr. Jeffrey Whitman—named a Best Doctor in D Magazine for 20 years in a row—has led his team for 37 years.
Under his direction, the Key-Whitman team of experienced doctors performs a full range of progressive ophthalmic services in nine locations. When Dr. Whitman joined Key-Whitman Eye Center in 1985, he never imagined it would become the area’s largest ophthalmology practice. “I consider it a privilege every day to serve my patients,” he says.
Dr. Whitman knew he wanted to be an eye doctor as a child. One of four children, his youngest sister was born with a lazy eye that had to be corrected with hard lenses, and he often accompanied his mom and sister to eye doctor appointments. “The doctor had the best bedside manner and a soothing voice,” he says. “It was imprinted on me that I wanted to help people feel better.”
Today, Dr. Whitman is one of the most experienced cataract and refractive surgeons in North Texas. He and his team refuse to rest on their laurels and always take a forward-thinking approach to patient care. He plans to grow the practice to more North Texas cities and beyond where ophthalmology care is scarce. “We may be a big practice, but we make each patient feel like an individual,” he says. “This is a word-of-mouth practice, and we take pride in doing things differently. We have been blessed to develop a loyal following.”
