Brandon Formby has an article up over at the News that in many ways is an introduction to and an announcement for CityMAP, which many people didn’t even know was going on. He provides all the details and background for you over there in place of more quotes from me (shakes fist). One quote that was cut that I stand by and feel compelled to reiterate is that this is the most important thing Dallas has done since the implementation of DART or even further back, the original Kessler Plan. Highways are big infrastructural elements. And like all big infrastructure, they provide the big bones giving shape and behavior to the organism. This is our chance to align the framework for a 21st century city to emerge. That is, if you participate.
You may not have heard about it because it’s mostly been behind closed doors. Of course, that is not the intention and that is why there will be a series of public meetings coming up:
Thursday, 5-8 p.m., Townview Magnet Center, 1201 E. Eighth St.
Oct. 22, 5-8 p.m., Dallas Regional Chamber, 500 N. Akard St., Suite 2600.
Nov. 5, 5-8 p.m., African American Museum, 3536 Grand Ave.
They also have a new website up. Check it out (if we’ve done nothing else, at least we’ve influenced their web design).
