When I Went: August 2013

Was That the Best Time of Year to Go? Yes, the weather was very accommodating. It wasn’t too hot and there were fewer crowds.

Why I Went:  I wanted to visit the Everglades in Florida because traveling along the east coast is a joy to me. It was my first time snorkeling, so experiencing the wildlife and up close was a blast. Naples, Florida, in particular was incredibly beautiful. My friend hadn’t been in natural waters for decades. This was his first chance to see crabs, sand dollars, stingray, etc. for the first time.

Who Went With Me? A friend who was visiting from Great Britain.

I Stayed Here: We stayed in multiple areas that dotted central and southern Florida.

Don’t Miss: Visit the Everglades. The Miccosukee Tribe will get you very up close to the gators. Go swimming and snorkeling at John Pennekamp Park. Experience the wonderful Cuban cuisine throughout the state. And definitely visit Key West to take in the wonderful history and influence of years past.

Eat Here: Try any of the Cuban restaurants, Vietnamese restaurants serving pho, or the Thai restaurants.

If I Went Again: This time I’d go northwest towards Tallahassee and snorkel at Panama City, I would eat at more Cuban restaurants, visit Blue Springs State Park, tour Busch Gardens, and see a launch at Cape Canaveral.

How Did You Get There From Dallas? Flew eastbound.

Other Tips For Fellow Travelers: I highly suggest that anyone who hasn’t seen the state should go! This destination is diverse and very family friendly.
