When I Went: April 2011
Was That the Best Time of Year to Go? I would say so. Marfa is in West Texas, so it is cool at night and not too warm during the day.
Why I Went There: I went to Marfa for the first time to see the Gentleman of the Road Tour featuring Mumford and Sons. My sister, friend and I headed out overnight, taking turns driving to reach our destination by the morning. We got to our hotel, checked in and roamed around the town for a while before the concert. We had a wonderful time dancing and listening to the great musicians. After the concert we went to glimpse the Marfa Lights. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see them, but it was a beautiful out. Later that night, we found the cutest little bar (with great beef jerky) to stop in and have a few drinks. While we were there, a gentleman came in with a guitar and the whole bar ended up singing together. The next day, we explored the town some more before we headed back home. It was a crazy, short trip but it was once in a lifetime—a wonderful show in one of the best towns ever.
Who Went With Me? My sister and friend.
