Jackson Hole, Wyoming

When I Went: August 2-15, 2008

Was That the Best Time of Year to Go? Although people who are avid skiers praise Jackson for its skiing, I feel that we found this city in its prime season. My grandmother, who was a travel agent for many years, always tells people that there are so many places in the United States that are absolute gems yet so many chose to travel abroad. Our grandparents chose to educate us and show us some of the most beautiful, unique places in the United States, and I am forever grateful.

Why I Went There: We went to the Spotted Horse Ranch to celebrate my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary. Every year, our family goes to the beach, however, this year, we went on this special trip for this special anniversary.

Who Went With Me? I traveled to Jackson Hole with my grandparents, my parents, my brother, my six aunts and uncles, and my five cousins.

We Stayed Here: Spotted Horse Ranch

You Won’t Want to Miss: If you are going to go to Jackson Hole, you need to strap on your hiking boots and experience nature. Our whole group is not one for nature. We think of a vacation as sitting on the beach drinking margaritas and soaking up rays, however, our mindsets were instantly changed when we arrived in this magical place. We had breakfast by the river, spent our days horseback riding and our nights walking and talking under the stars by the river.

Eat Here: Although the Spotted Horse Ranch has a full cooking staff on site and offers breakfast, lunch and dinner family style meals, there are certain nights where we ventured into town for some luxury food and drink: Bin22, Rendezvous Bistro, Q Roadhouse, The Kitchen

Play Here: The Spotted Horse Ranch offers horse back riding for all levels, fly fishing, tubing, hiking, etc., included in the package. During our vacation, we also went white water rafting and to a local rodeo. We also got amazing massages.

If I Went Again: If I went again, I would spend more time on the water. I spent most of my time horseback riding and hiking and really feel like I missed out on some of the best tubing and fishing. We did have the most amazing time ever white water rafting.

How Did You Get There From Dallas? Easy flights out of DFW. You can fly directly into Jackson Hole, which is a treat in itself.

Other Tips For Fellow Travelers: It is the ultimate in rest and relaxation and enjoying the beautiful country that we live in.
