When I Went: April 21-27

Was That the Best Time of Year to Go? Further into the summer months is probably a better time to visit because, while the weather was gorgeous, the water was too cold to get into and the nights were chilly.

Why I Went There: We had booked a Carnival Cruise that was cancelled (probably by the grace of God) and made last minute plans to visit my boyfriend’s family in the Los Angeles area and stay at a beach house there.

Who Went With Me? My boyfriend, Peter

We Stayed Here: We stayed at his aunt and uncle’s beach house right along Sunset Beach.

You Won’t Want to Miss: Be outside! Wander around Naples Island Canals and ogle at the homes there. Discover different beaches; don’t just stick to one. Take a day trip to La Jolla Cove to snorkel.

Eat Here: Michael’s PizzariaHarbor House Cafe, Bay Cities Italian Deli (order online to cut wait time; get the Godmother with the works), The Crema Cafe

Play Here: Crystal Cove State Park

If I Went Again: Be a little less organized and more spontaneous. Let the week plan itself. Relax.

How Did You Get There From Dallas? We flew from DFW to LAX.
