When I Went: April 15-26, 2013

Was That the Best Time of Year to Go? Yes, the weather was fabulous.  The hotel owner recommended we get married in April, prior to the weather getting too hot and muggy.

Why I Went There: To marry my beautiful bride, Amber

Who Went With Me? Sixty of our closest friends and family

We Stayed Here: Playa Fiesta Hotel

[mapimage url=”http%3A%2F%2Fmaps.google.com%2Fmaps%2Fapi%2Fstaticmap%3Fsize%3D200x200%26sensor%3Dfalse%26markers%3DPuertoVallarta%2CMexico%26zoom%3D4″]You Won’t Want to Miss: We stayed at Playa Fiesta for the wedding week, Wednesday through Sunday.  The hotel is ranked No.1 on Trip Advisor, and after our stay there I could certainly see why.  The staff was amazing, food was to-die-for, and rooms/pool/everything was as clean as you could possibly imagine.

Eat Here: Hacienda San Angel.  Great food, incredible view from the rooftop restaurant, and live entertainment throughout dinner with a very romantic setting.

Play Here: Marina Vallarta golf course. We had a group of 12, three back-to-back tee times. Awesome TaylorMade club rentals, fantastic golf course, a few holes directly lining the coast and beach, and alligator sightings.

If I Went Again: We didn’t do anything differently. It was quite possibly the best 11 days of my life (including our honeymoon). Playa Fiesta was one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at all around, and I’ve stayed at quite a few.  Food, accommodations, service were all A+.

How Did You Get There From Dallas? By plane, American Airlines nonstop.  It’s about a two-and-a-half-hour flight.

Other Tips For Fellow Travelers: The hotel was only about 30 minutes from the airport, and a cheap $20 cab ride each way. Everyone was very friendly, and everywhere we went we felt very safe. Lindsay and Adam are the owners of the hotel and are extremely helpful and friendly. Noa and Charlie are two of the bartenders who knew each of the 60 guests names within an hour. All of the hotel rooms are updated, and you feel at home at all times.

It's been 26 years since a defending World Series champion leaned on this many young players out of the gate. In Texas' case, that wasn't the plan. But that doesn't make an influx of former first-round picks a bad thing, either.
