When I Went: July 19-25, 2011

Was That the Best Time of Year to Go? Yes, because it was our first wedding anniversary, and we love being at the beach during the summer.

Who Went With Me? It was just me and my hubby.

We Stayed Here: Sandals Grande Antigua Resort & Spa

[mapimage url=”http%3A%2F%2Fmaps.google.com%2Fmaps%2Fapi%2Fstaticmap%3Fsize%3D200x200%26sensor%3Dfalse%26markers%3DAntigua%26zoom%3D5″]You Won’t Want to Miss: We took a helicopter tour to the neighboring island Barbuda and spent the day at  a private beach. It was easily the best part of our trip. Also, at the resort, I would not miss out on the couples’ massage.

Eat Here: All of the restaurants are great. The breakfast buffet has so many choices and lots of fresh exotic fruits to choose from. The Mexican restaurant was really good too and served margarita pitchers.

Play Here: Kayaks, snorkeling, and windsurfing were all included with our stay. We also played with giant chess pieces on a giant board.

If I Went Again: I would upgrade to a cabana-style room that comes with a personal plunge pool fenced off for extra privacy.

How Did You Get There From Dallas? American Airlines. DFW to Miami, then Miami to Antigua.

Other Tips For Fellow Travelers: It was voted one of the top resorts for honeymooners. It was never too crowded, and everyone was very helpful and nice. The casino next door was also a big hit.
