When I Went: July 15-17, 2011
Was That the Best Time of Year to Go? Summer means warm days and cool nights. Temperatures in the 60s and 70s.
Why I Went There: Thought it would be a fun side trip from London.
Who Went With Me? My college friends and former roommates.
We Stayed Here: Sheraton Brussels
You Won’t Want to Miss: The Grand Place lit up at night. Eating mussels in Brussels.

Waffles from Belgaufra kiosks on the street were my favorite. Order them plain; toppings just take away from it.
Play Here: Grab a bottle of wine and go sit in the court of the Grand Place at night and watch the light show on the hour.
If I Went Again: Visit during the week while the EU and NATO are in session.
How Did You Get There From Dallas? American Airlines flight to London, Eurostar train from St. Pancras in London to Brussels (a two-hour train ride through the Chunnel and northern French countryside.)
Other Tips For Fellow Travelers: Every travel magazine and website rates frites from Maison Antoine as some of the best street food in the world. It’s pretty overrated. The frites are the same as anywhere else, but they do have some interesting sauces, like curry ketchup and andalouse.
