Calling all pet parents! Show us your dog, cat, bunny, turtle, horse, goat, or mini pig. Your four-legged friend just might win the 2021 crown.

The most wonderful time of the year is finally here, readers! Our Cutest Pets in Dallas competition is about to begin.

Last year, the competition was stiff as 1,000 pets vied for the crown. There were dogs and cats aplenty, but dozens of exotic entrants competed, too: mini-pigs, turtles, goats, snakes, horses, and birds. Ultimately, Bourbon the mini Aussie was named our Readers’ Choice winner, while Boots the Wonder Cat was the Editors’ Choice victor. (Meet both winners here.)

This year, we’re once again accepting 1,000 entrants. The deadline to submit your pet is May 21, but there are thousands of adorable pets in North Texas, and the competition will likely fill up sooner.

Voting begins June 1. You can vote all day, every day, and you’ll have a custom link to share with family and friends. Voting will close on June 22.

We’ll be crowning two winners, a Readers’ Choice pick and a Judges’ Choice pick. The pet who receives the most votes in the competition will be our Readers’ Choice winner. The top 20 pets that receive the most votes will move on to our voting panel, where esteemed in-house pet experts will decide on an Editors’ Choice winner.

Bourbon and Boots the Wonder Cat, our 2020 winners.

This year’s prizes include:

  1. A professional photoshoot with a D Magazine photographer
  2. A full-page spotlight in the August issue of D Magazine, featuring a photo selected from the shoot
  3. A “Get to Know our Winners” article, posted on dmagazine.com, complete with a Q&A
  4. An Instagram post on D Magazine’s Instagram, broadcast to more than 198,000 followers.

The competition is free to enter; all you need is a vertical image of your pet. Choose a photo that show’s your pet’s personality. Last year’s Top 20 were pictured hiking, playing fetch, sailing, and napping in the sun. The higher the resolution, the better, and keep his or her cute face in focus.

While only two winners will appear in the pages of D Magazine, every pet is a cover star in our eyes. All entrants can purchase a faux D “Cutest Pets” cover with their pet front and center. A digital edition is $34.95, while a printed version is $45.95. Both options include a one-year subscription to D Magazine.

So, fellow pet parents, don’t delay–enter our Cutest Pets in Dallas contest now. Click here to submit your pet and order your custom D cover. Good luck!
