Wellness is a major buzzword these days, but it can mean a little something different to everyone. Does it stand for self-care and restoration, or is it more about strength and endurance? So, we created a series breaking down the healthy habits of local influencers and entrepreneurs, allowing them to define what wellness means on a personal level.

Life gets busy and hectic. Especially when you’re the CEO and founder of burgeoning baby goods company, Milk Snob. Mom, businesswoman, and entrepreneur extraordinaire, Melanie Disbrow, who moved to Dallas from Germany in 2006, keeps her wellness in check by focusing on three things she’s grateful for each day. “It helps me to have a very structured day and to say no to things that I simply don’t have time for,” she says.

We caught up with the Milk Snob founder, who just launched her fall/winter collection of stylish and versatile infant covers, to hear what wellness means to her.

On an ideal day, how would you start your morning with wellness in mind?
I would spend time taking a good stretch and drinking a glass of room temperature water with a squeeze of fresh lemon. I’d eat a bowl of Greek yogurt with fresh fruit and granola for breakfast. Also, during the mornings, I make a conscious effort to avoid technology.

Aside from refraining from technology in the morning, how else do keep your mind healthy and centered?
I like to practice daily wellness through meditation and yoga. I also love to read books about self-growth and love. Wellness for me is all about mental well-being, and practicing self-love is a daily habit.  It changed my life for the better.

Where is your favorite place to eat out in Dallas, and how do you make healthy choices when you do?
My favorite is True Food Kitchen. I love that they have seasonal menus, and all the items are light and fresh. It is not easy, but most restaurants have healthy and wholesome options that make choosing to eat healthier a lot easier. If I have a heavier lunch, I’ll be sure to eat something lighter for dinner such as grilled chicken, fish, or a salad.

Aside from your usual yoga, if you had to choose one favorite workout to do on your most healthy day, what would it be?
Running! I feel so refreshed after a nice long run around my neighborhood.

Any workout clothes you’re loving right now?
Occasionally, I do splurge on Lululemon apparel, but lately, I’ve really liked the options from Target’s JoyLab line.
