9,510 square feet is a lot of surface area for any home, but it’s practically unheard of in midcentury architecture. Designed for oilman Grady Vaughn in 1951, this Robert Goodwin-designed masterpiece at 5350 S Dentwood Drive isn’t just sprawling for the sake of it. There’s an effortless flow from room to room, with a meticulously plan behind every curve and twist. Even the large den, with its vintage bar and coffered ceilings, which was clearly designed with entertaining in mind, would still feel cozy even without guests to fill it.
There’s a good amount of drama as well, though. With a backyard that backs right up to Bachman Creek, the home was constructed to blend in with the landscape, aided by its many towering walls of windows. Cypress soffits and terrazzo floors with brass inlay compliment luxe finishes and details throughout the home. The stairwell, a masterpiece in its own right, is blessedly visible from the street (it even made an appearance in D Home’s “10 Most Beautiful Homes” last year).

One of Vaughn’s sons told us last year, “We had a lot of people who wanted to buy it from my dad, and he would never sell it. He just loved every inch of that house.” We’re sure the right buyer will love it too.
