With its well-edited shelves, and stark décor, Black Optical‘s streamlined aesthetic is more in line with art gallery than a shop. And owner Gary Black—who has an eye for emerging brands—serves as the perfect curator. So, when zeroing in on the eyewear trends to invest in this summer (and beyond), we went straight to the savvy source.

The Trends

“We are definitely are seeing a reinvention of the classic Aviator,” says Black Optical stylist Lisha Paty. “Lots of geometrics like the ‘Metis‘ from Barton Perreira, floating lenses from Thom Browne, and even the ‘Rampart’, which we co-designed with Krewe, that has a floating top bar.”

A Rosie Outlook

“For women, we are all loving rose colored lenses! From Barton Perreira to Kuboraum, we are seeing so many brands come out with a nice curation of sunnies with rose colored lenses,” says Paty. “Some of our favorites include Barton Perreira ‘Doyen’, Jacques Marie Mage ‘Roy’, Celine ‘CL40062U’, Krewe ‘Monroe Nylon’ and Kuboraum ‘Maske Y3’.”

Trust in Oprah

“As far as optical frames go, we think the bigger the better – Jacques Marie Mage ‘Hemmings’, Salt Optics ‘Jennings’ & Thom Browne ‘TBX418‘ are some of our favorite bold frames this season,” says Paty. “We also love the Kuboraum ‘Maske K5‘ that Oprah is known to wear.”
