5 Healthy Choices NBC Anchor Meredith Land Makes in a Day

The local reporter is a fan of ozone therapy, her Peloton bike, and Chick-Fil-A soup for the soul.

Wellness is a major buzzword these days, but it can mean a little something different to everyone. Does it stand for self-care and restoration, or is it more about strength and endurance? So, we created a series breaking down the healthy habits of local influencers and entrepreneurs, allowing them to define what wellness means on a personal level.

Meredith Land, a longtime local reporter and NBC 5 anchor, takes the topic of wellness—both in mind and body—very seriously. In the era of the unrelenting news cycle, Land’s wellbeing is reliant on seeing the positive whenever she has the opportunity. “I think being exposed to so much tragedy in my profession creates an anxiety in me,” says Land. “I have to pray that I see the glass half-full.” She personally prefers to make that a glass of Kombucha.

We get see Land’s interview skills on display most weeknights, but today, the journalist allowed us to flip the script. Here, she talks chlorophyll, her Peloton bike, and Chik-Fil-A noodle soup for the soul.

Aside from Kombucha, what’s your go-to drink of choice you’re sipping through out the day?
When I’m on my game, I drink a large glass of water with Vitamin C and chlorophyll (to flush out any toxins) first thing in the morning. On occasion, I’ll go to The Juice Bar and start with a celery juice with lemon. They say to drink that on an empty stomach to help with digestion and inflammation.

Any tips or tricks on staying full throughout the day, so you can resist mindless snacking?
My move is coffee. Unless I’m doing an early interview, I don’t start drinking caffeine until the afternoon. Coffee keeps me fuller. I do try to avoid the bread basket, but if I’m hungry, oh well.

You’re working during the dinner hour most nights. How do you avoid a trip to the vending machine or a quick drive-thru cheat?
I eat dinner at the office on weeknights. That keeps me away from the wine and semi-healthy. I’m having a real moment with Joe—Trader Joe. I like his salad bags (I toss out the tortilla chips pouch within) and am obsessed with his high protein burger. Honestly, I eat the same thing every night. Or I eat Chick-Fil-A’s chicken noodle soup if I need to feel comforted.

How do you motivate yourself to practice willpower when it comes to healthy food choices?
I don’t own a scale. I know I’m in trouble when my jeans are tight, which is every Monday. I guess just having to get on screen everyday is my motivation. The number one thing people say to me when we meet is, “You are so much smaller in person.”  Thanks? I guess TV does add ten pounds, or whatever the quote is.

How do you unwind after a long day or week?
I have a Peloton in my house and my legs are noticeably stronger when I ride it. But, if I’m being honest, I favor a nap over exercise most days.

I also do reflexology at Max Feet when the dogs are barking. I’m a big tub soaker (love Epsom salts). I steam in the shower everyday with various aromatherapy mists and I also love ozone therapy for a full detox. Gosh, I sound like a high maintenance poodle.
