What I’m Watching: Are the Mavs Feeling Lucky?

Plus: the Wings' season begins as the Stars fight to make sure theirs doesn't come to an end.

The Stars took control of their series against the Kraken but failed to send Seattle home in Game 6. Leody Taveras had a much better time in the Pacific Northwest, kicking off a five-game hit streak in Seattle as he continues to swing a hot bat. And FC Dallas got some revenge on Austin FC courtesy of Jesus Ferreira, whom you can read more about today courtesy of Jon Arnold.

Here’s what I’m watching this week:

Monday, 5/15—Stars versus Kraken, Game 77:00 p.m., ESPN

It all comes down to this. Win or lose, David Castillo and I will have our thoughts and feelings for tomorrow morning, while Sean Shapiro will be writing for Wednesday morning.

Tuesday, 5/16—NBA Draft Lottery7:00 p.m., ESPN

The good news: the Mavericks have a 79.8 percent chance of their pick landing inside the top 10 and keeping their draft pick instead of sending it to New York to complete the Kristaps Porzingis deal. The less-good news: Dallas has never managed to outperform its expected lottery position. So positive odds notwithstanding, you can expect everyone to sweat this out until the pick is secured. Regardless of how it plays out, we’ll have more this week.

Saturday, 5/20—Wings versus DreamNoon, ABC

Dallas kicks off its 2023 WNBA campaign in the College Park Center with an overhauled roster plus a new coach in Latricia Trammell. Dorothy J. Gentry and Sam Hale will deliver their customary excellent coverage all season long.
