What I’m Watching: the Next Crop of Cowboys

Plus: a pivotal Game 5 for the Stars, and Jacob deGrom takes on the Yankees.

The Stars dropped Game 1 in their first-round series against the Wild and are tied at two games apiece heading into tomorrow night’s Game 5—but you knew all of this if you’ve been reading David Castillo and me. Meanwhile, Andrew Heaney delivered his third consecutive quality start, allowing two runs in six innings to pick up a win against the A’s. But the news wasn’t so good for FC Dallas, who took a 3-1 shellacking by NYCFC.

Here’s what I’m watching this week:

Tuesday, 4/25—Stars versus Wild, Game 5—Bally Sports Southwest

The series, in all likelihood, comes down to this game. The good news: it’s at home, where Dallas’ offense has looked far more threatening. The less-good news: “threatening” only counts for so much if they can’t score goals at even strength. Sean Shapiro will have more on that tomorrow morning.

Thursday, 4/27 through Saturday 4/29—The NFL DraftNFL Network and ESPN Networks

It’s the time of the year when the Cowboys shine most. Left guard, defensive tackle, and tight end loom as obvious needs (Jake Kemp will write about the latter for tomorrow), but given Dallas’ track record of success in recent years, expect them to walk away with several key contributors. We’ll have more this week and next.

Friday, 4/28—Rangers versus Yankees7:05 p.m., Bally Sports Southwest

It’s Jacob deGrom versus the Yankees, and he’ll probably be wearing that weird new uniform, too! What’s not to love? (Besides the weird new uniform, of course.)
