Calling all proletariats and aristocrats, artistes and courtesans…Moulin Rouge! The Musical has made its way to Broadway Dallas (finally)! Now is the time to secure your tickets to experience “Truth, Beauty, Freedom, and Love” up close.

Sensual. Edgy. Welcoming. Moulin Rouge! The Musical, based on the iconic 2001 film by Baz Luhrmann, comes to jaw-dropping colorful life March 15 – April 2, 2023, at the Music Hall at Fair Park. Presented by Broadway Dallas, the decadent musical is everything you remember about the hit movie but better and remixed in a new musical mash-up extravaganza. With eye-popping excess throughout, Moulin Rouge! The Musical is a state of mind—not just a show.

The winner of 10 2021 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and numerous other industry awards, Moulin Rouge! The Musical is directed by Tony Award winner Alex Timbers and celebrates more than 160 years of music, from Offenbach to Lady Gaga. You’ll hear many music favorites from the movie with some recent hits added in. Wildly immersive, the musical is a hypnotic dance loop, and the music feels like it is coming from 360 degrees. An elephant perched beyond the proscenium, the movie’s signature windmill, and hues of seductive reds, purples, and blues set the tone before the show even begins. The Tony Award-winning lighting designer says he purposefully placed a lightbulb on every reliable surface of the set to pulse and animate throughout the show. The opulent Tony Award-winning set, combined with bespoke Tony Award-winning costumes mixing Parisian silhouettes and edgy, contemporary couture, make this musical a delight for the senses.

It has been a few years since 2001, so let’s refresh the plot: Paris, France, 1899. Christian a young American, arrives in Paris hoping to start a successful writing career. While in Paris, he meets the bohemians who tell him he should write a musical, later named “Spectacular, Spectacular,” so they can showcase it at the famous nightclub, the Moulin Rouge. Upon arriving at the nightclub, Christian sets his eyes on Satine, Paris’ most beautiful star and entertainer/courtesan at the Moulin Rouge. They fall deeply in love. Meanwhile, Moulin Rouge’s owner asks a wealthy Duke to invest to pay off the nightclub’s debts and transform Moulin Rouge to its former glory. The Duke agrees–only if he can lay claim to Christian’s beloved Satine. A tricky love triangle ensues. It’s a world where bohemians and aristocrats rub elbows and revel in electrifying enchantment.

While awaiting your turn to see the musical, take note of these interesting facts about Moulin Rouge! The Musical tells its story, by the numbers, about how much sparkly detail goes into a show of this magnitude.

5,100 – Number of lightbulbs used on stage, front of stage, overhead, and on the side walls

75 – Songwriters and artists represented in the show

6,000 – Crystals on Satine’s Elm Blue dress
