Have you ever walked into a restaurant, grocery, or department store, and the first thing you noticed was what was playing over the speakers? This is my life. I walk into the Central Market down the road from my house once a week and can’t help but instantly notice what this business has decided to play for everyone. And it’s hard for me not to notice the nice old couple grabbing their almond milk and mouthing the words to “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac.  Taking the time to pay attention to what others find entertaining and what they consider to be ‘good music’ is one of the best parts of my job. It’s research, and I’m always working.  Being able to play music for people and see them react in real-time to what you’re doing is an indescribable feeling. Every moment is live and in the moment. If anyone is great at people-watching, it’s a DJ. It’s a huge part of the job! Everything that’s happening in the room and everyone’s reaction can change the mood and the music plays a big part in keeping everything together. Not every song gets the reaction you want so you have to change it up based on what the crowd is doing. People keep you on your toes and I like trying to figure out what they want because when you hook them, it’s the best feeling in the world!
