Downtown Garland is a vibe and a mood all its own—one that embodies charm and wonder and allurement. From the iconic Plaza Theater, with its impeccably curated fan-favorite film offerings, to the delectable brews and barbeque at Intrinsic Smokehouse & Brewery to all the other quaint spots on the square.
For example, Intrinsic, true to its name, naturally fits into downtown Garland and the timeless charm associated with it. The old-world brick, the classic main street awning, and the big bay windows invite you in; the rustic, wood-grained bar tops and tables, the industrial, chic trappings of the environment (and the delicious smell of course!) beckon you to stay. Stay and eat some mouthwatering Texas-style barbeque, enjoy craft soda and beer, and discover a community. Be warned: the ambiance at Intrinsic is addicting! It’s a place you’ll want to come back again and again.
If you’re a bar hopper sort, there’s also the Tavern on the Square serving up scrumptious eats and delicious drinks—plus it’s just a really fun atmosphere, with designated karaoke and bingo nights, live music, and DJ dance parties.
If a main street-style cafe is more up your alley, then, look no further than the famous (and aptly named) Main Street Cafe. Main Street Cafe is a family-run restaurant featuring hearty homemade cooking and lighter foods like delicious soups and crisp, cold salads (the latter of which sounds especially appetizing as temperatures start to soar into the triple-digits!). Dos Banderas Tex-Mex Cuisine, also located on Main Street, is housed in one of the very old, historic buildings that were built around a century ago, which honestly just adds to the character and delightfulness of the restaurant—a restaurant that is quickly becoming a Garland staple (and with good reason). From sizzling fajitas to piping hot house-made tortillas to refreshing avocados and salsa and traditional Tex-Mex fare, this place is the real deal.
