Ranch Reno Breathes Contemporary Life into Classic Home

If the original homeowners of this 1978 dwelling at 5973 Northaven Road said that they could picture what was to come for the property’s exterior, we’d call their bluff. Is it typical? Not even a little bit. But in the very best way.

This now-contemporary home features a ‘Cali cool’ vibe smack dab in the middle of North Dallas. Nestled between the popular Preston Royal and Preston Forest shopping centers, the new owner of this home will inherit endless options for shopping, dining, and taking care of all of life’s little errands.

A recent renovation revealed an ideal open floor plan that includes a den with bi-fold doors, an incredible kitchen with sought-after appliances (hello, Viking), and not one but two dining areas. There is also a walk-in pantry for storing all the things. The high ceilings and the wide plank floors work in harmony to create an airy and bright living space with fantastic flow.

Our favorite area of the home has to be the primary suite. Trust us when we say that whoever gets to exist within this space is in for quite the treat. And what exactly makes it so special? For starters, the dual closets are both practical and efficient. Large, but not too, making organization easy. There is also an oversized shower, sculptured walls, and designer lighting. A bonus? Access from one of the closets to another large suite that has a gas fireplace. So romantic!

And as lovely as the inside renovation is, because our hats are truly off, there is so much value in the incredible piece of land in which it sits. The large lot is manicured in both the back and the front and has adequate space for a pool. Pair that with its proximity to the Northhaven Trail and we can officially say that this is a great home for those who like to experience the great outdoors on the daily. So, tell us. Will you be spending your summer in the front yard drinking margaritas with neighbors or in the backyard teaching your dog how to fetch?

Debbie Sherrington has two passions – education and real estate.

A native of Russellville, Ark., she earned a degree in elementary education from the University of Arkansas. That led to a job as a teacher, of course, but it also influenced her personal choices. Debbie and her husband are proud parents of four children who have thrived in Dallas’ public schools. In fact, Debbie has been the president of the PTAs at all of her kids’ campuses.

But real estate is in Debbie’s blood. She grew up in the business, with her parents being among the most successful Realtors in the Natural State. So a career in real estate seemed like a natural fit.

“I love when I’m showing a property and I can see in the buyers’ eyes that it’s a match,” Debbie says. “I love learning from a seller the history of their home and what they love about it.”

Debbie values the friendships that develop during the buying or selling process. Consequently, she brings compassion, knowledge, and patience to each transaction, striving to understand her clients’ needs so they can be happy with their decision.
