As we enter another challenging year, one word captures the spirit of this country: resilience. Michael’s trajectory to founder and CEO of a successful healthcare company captures not just the human condition, with all its triumphs and losses, but also the American spirit of resilience: of recovering from any setback. This tenacious attitude allows him to continue moving forward into the future with initiatives to propel Healthcare Highways into the next phase of acclaim.

Michael’s perseverance was evident at just eleven years old, taking up the rigorous sport of gymnastics and excelling to the point of competing at multiple Junior Olympic championships. As an adult, he went on to become a Five-time All-American gymnast and NCAA champion, amongst other honors. And though the 1980 Olympics were boycotted by then-President Jimmy Carter, he nonetheless earned a spot on the team.

As in gymnastics, his approach to business follows a pattern of grit, determination, and a competitive spirit. His motto is “competition breeds excellence”, and he lives by that philosophy every day, having successfully built and acquired numerous companies throughout his career.

Michael is also passionate about giving back, advocating for several local and national non-profits including The Boys and Girls Club of Collin County, Make a Wish of North Texas, and the Pat and Emmitt Smith Charities. He’s also on the Board of the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame and a longtime supporter of the University of Oklahoma.

If there was a silver lining in the pandemic, it’s that affordable healthcare coverage is important. To protect profit margins, avoid further workforce cuts, and retain top talent, it’s critical for employers to embrace innovative healthcare solutions using a value-based care model, which has been proven to sustainably lower costs long-term.

Michael is the founder and CEO of Healthcare Highways, a healthcare company that offers best-in-class healthcare solutions to companies in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. With more than 600,000 covered members across three states and counting, Healthcare Highways’ capabilities include health plan solutions, multiple network configurations, care coordination solutions, and full-service pharmacy benefit management solutions.
