For pediatric dentist Dr. Dane Hoang, her work is all about the children. “I know I’m not alone when I say that one of my most cherished memories is the moment when my daughter looked at me for the very first time and smiled,” she says. Dr. Dane, as her young patients affectionately call her, believes that children around the world should have the same access to medical and dental care that children in Dallas-Fort Worth enjoy, so when she’s not busy treating patients at her Children’s Dental Care offices in Dallas and Richardson, you’ll find her volunteering her time and talent with Operation Smile, an international medical charity that provides free surgeries to children and young adults born with a cleft condition.

Along with her daughter, Isabella, Dr. Dane founded Kids 4 Smiles, an organization established on the belief that by empowering children, one can change the world at any age. Past fundraising efforts have brought much-needed aid to children in Dallas, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Ethiopia. To help fund her service projects, Isabella hand-makes hair accessories through her Bella Be You line. She also helps her mom apply the packaging labels and hand-writes the thank you notes for Dr. Dane’s Conscious Living products. Dr. Dane designed the products not only to enhance the lives of those who purchase them, but to help support Kids 4 Smiles mission to empower the youth of today to become the adults of tomorrow through volunteer opportunities in their respective communities.

Dr. Dane’s volunteerism, kindness, and effort to pay it forward are only a few reasons you’ll find her picture-perfect smile on Lay’s potato chip bags across the United States. Dr. Dane was selected to take part in the Smile with Lay’s campaign, which highlights the real smiles of “ordinary” people who are doing extraordinary things to bring joy to others in their communities. “One of my favorite quotes is by Operation Smile’s Co-founder Dr. Bill Magee,” Dr. Dane says. “Love by definition is self-sacrifice. Love is a decision to make someone else’s problem your own.”
