On Thursday, October 3rd, Black Tie Dinner held its annual 30 Day Countdown event at Park Place Mercedes-Benz. The evening, underwritten by Celebrity Cruises, featured an open bar, heavy hors d’oeuvres, and a well-dressed crowd of around 500. The evening was emceed by WFAA anchor Dale Hansen, who has become a regular face at Black Tie Dinner events over the past few years. Proceeds from the event will go to support Black Tie Dinner’s 2019 beneficiaries, almost all of which are North Texas LGBTQ organizations. The evening was a prelude to the 38th Annual Black Tie Dinner on November 2nd at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Dallas, which is the largest LGBTQ fundraising dinner in the nation.
Mr. Hansen led the evening with a funny and heartfelt speech to the crowd explaining how he had come to be involved with Black Tie Dinner. Black Tie Dinner Co-Chairs Nathan Robbins and Jeremy Hawpe also spoke about the Dinner’s featured guest, Emmy, Tony, and Grammy winner Billy Porter. They also announced that comedian Dana Goldberg would be returning to host the live auction portion of the evening and teased more announcements to come regarding award winners and guests attending the dinner. All tables for the dinner have been sold, but Mr. Robbins encouraged anyone unable to attend the dinner to attend B4Black, a free event at the Sheraton the evening on November 1, featuring live entertainment, a preview of the dinner auction items, and an opportunity to buy a raffle ticket for a chance to win a new Mercedes, provided by Park Place Motorcars.
