For many families, a visit to the State Fair of Texas is a favorite annual tradition. Amidst the food, fun, and activities, take steps to keep safety and health top of mind.
1. Plan Ahead
Before your visit, review the fairground map. It’s helpful to know your child’s height and weight for rides. Check the weather so you can dress comfortably, and don’t forget sunscreen.
2. Designate the Adult in Charge
Will you be taking a group of kids with fellow parents? Establish who is in charge of each child ahead of time. Since the fair can be busy, limit distractions and keep children in sight at all times.
3. Make a Safety Plan
Make a plan with your child of what to do if he or she gets separated from you. The fair has a designated Safe Kids area where children can go if they get lost.
4. Stay Hydrated
Bringing coolers into the State Fair of Texas is permitted, so you can stock up on water. It’s important to keep kids hydrated through all the sun, walking and activities.
5. Keep Hands Clean
Proper hand hygiene is the number one way to prevent the spread of germs. Encourage children to wash or sanitize their hands throughout the day, especially after using the restroom, touching animals or before eating food.
