While we love our Texas beaches, nothing can compare to the sparkling cerulean waters and bright white sands of the Caribbean. Spirited couples and easygoing families alike will find plenty to love. At all-inclusive resorts, sunbathing is an activity in itself; on outdoor excursions, zip line through the jungle and drive an ATV all before lunch. No matter the direction you choose, a Caribbean destination is just a flight away on Sun Country Airlines. Read on for our guide to the perfect beach getaway.

Jamaica

Known for lush green jungles, softly flowing rivers, and spectacular beaches, Jamaica is one of the gems of the Caribbean. While the island is known for its friendly, laid-back feel, there’s no shortage of high-energy things to do and see, from day trips to dining and nightlife. Fly direct to Jamaica from DFW–nonstop flights to Montego Bay operate May 24 to August 19.

Montego Bay

On the northern tip of Jamaica lies Montego Bay, a lively, bustling beachfront city with plenty to do and see. When you’re not at your resort soaking up the sun or snorkeling through the waves, head to popular destinations like luxury golf courses, or take an adventure tour (from ATV rides to cave explorations). Montego Bay is ideal for families–its close proximity to the airport ensures easy travel–but singles and couples will find plenty to love as well. Nightlife is vibrant at the Hip Strip entertainment area, where bars and restaurants (including a Margaritaville) are always busy.

Negril

Young adults, head west to Negril: you’ll find the ideal Jamaican experience, from a laid-back social scene to the calm waters. Negril Beach, a seven-mile strip of resorts, bars, and restaurants, offers an easy way to explore Jamaica on foot and unwind along the way. With bright beaches and still blue waters, you may find yourself sunbathing the day away, lounging with a drink in hand; when the mood strikes you to enjoy the ocean, you’ll find perfect conditions for swimming and paddle boarding. Be sure to visit Rick’s Cafe; located just south of Negril Beach, this restaurant hugs a cliff and overlooks a cove where vacationers spend hours jumping into the waters below.

Ocho Rios

Ocho Rios, perhaps the most versatile resort area of Jamaica, is on the north side of the island, east of Montego Bay. Adventure lovers of all ages will appreciate the proximity to popular tourist attractions, including Dunn’s River Falls, where water cascades softly over climbable rocks. Zip-lining and golf courses are also a short drive away. Resorts are spread out in the area, creating a less congested, more secluded feel for guests.

Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is paradise, no matter how you define it: with stunning terrain from mountains to rainforests to beaches, there’s something for everyone. The history of the country is apparent everywhere, from the Spanish architecture to the traditional music and dance (merengue, bachata, and son) to the diverse cuisine. With an airport close to the Punta Cana resort area, travel to the Dominican Republic is simple and effortless. Direct, nonstop flights from DFW operate May 25 – August 18.

Punta Cana

Situated on the east coast of the Dominican Republic, Punta Cana is nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Wide, white beaches hug the shore, and clear blue waters are postcard-worthy and beckon guests to paddle board and kayak. Resorts here are largely all-inclusive and ideal for guests of any age, from families looking for kids’ clubs and live entertainment to couples seeking swim-up bars and nightlife.

Nearby attractions will appeal to adventurous guests planning day trips (think zip lining through the trees, ATV rides on muddy jungle paths, and more). Punta Cana is also known for its 10 championship golf courses, crafted by acclaimed golfers and designers and brimming with palm trees. Relaxed visitors should opt for a visit to nearby Sanoa, located on the southeastern tip of the Dominican Republic and accessible by catamaran. Sanoa’s coral reefs and shallow pools are ideal for snorkeling and wading among starfish and sea creatures.
