The Leading Lady of Lakewood

2017 Lakewood Home Festival honors Vickie Thompson

It’s easy to fall in love with a neighborhood like Lakewood, a community that takes pride in its rich history, renowned schools, and its community ties.

The 2017 Lakewood Home Festival raises money for educational programs, school equipment, and supplies for local East Dallas schools, Lakewood Elementary, J.L. Long Middle School, and Woodrow Wilson High School.

This year’s Chair of the Home Tour, Skylar Champion, has been a Lakewood resident for ten years.

“Being the Chair of the Lakewood Home Tour is such an honor,” says Champion. “The Lakewood community has given me so much over the years that I feel so fortunate to be able to give back.”
Skylar is a top producing real estate agent at Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s Lakewood Office. Her knowledge and love of the neighborhood combined with her passion for education make the Lakewood Home Tour a perfect fit for Skylar, who has been on the tour committee for the past five years. This year’s fundraising effort is especially meaningful to Skylar because her own 5-year old daughter started school at Lakewood Elementary in August.

The six homes showcased on this year’s tour celebrate the historical and architectural significance of Lakewood. The Festival theme “We are Lakewood: Remembering our neighbor, Vickie Thompson” honors legendary Lakewood volunteer Vickie Thompson who passed away on July 4th of this year.

“Vickie was such an important fixture in our Lakewood community,” says Champion. “I am proud to be following in her footsteps by helping maintain the legacy of this beautiful place we call home.”

The Home Tour will be open Saturday through Sunday, November 11 – 12 from 11am – 5pm each day.
