“You give where you live.” It’s a lesson that Pierce Allman, cofounder of the Allie Beth Allman & Associates realty group, learned when he was just a boy. A native of the Park Cities, Pierce accompanied his father on philanthropic outings as he was growing up. He tells D, “One of my earliest recollections of knowing when it was the holiday season was getting in our Plymouth non-air-conditioned stick-shift and delivering food with my dad to parts of Dallas that I never knew existed.”

Pierce and his wife/business partner, Allie Beth, have carried on Pierce’s father’s legacy by supporting local charities and encouraging the real estate agents in their company to do the same. The list of organizations with which the Allmans are personally involved is lengthy, but, as Pierce says, they do not give for their own recognition. “It’s not letterhead participation that moves us,” he explains. Rather, it is giving to an organization “that is performing a genuine service for someone.”

If you need to reinforce your faith in each other, or if you want to express your gratitude for what you’ve been given, or if it’s just compassionate action, to me, giving is part of a citizen’s responsibility.

One of the highlights of the Allmans’ charity work is their involvement with the S.M. Wright Foundation, which organizes massive events during the holidays to provide food for people in need and also offers support throughout the year. Allie Beth recalls, “I became good friends with S.M. Wright. I met him when he was having a real hard time with his [organization.] We adopted it as our company charity and worked with him since the very beginning. It used to be just 300 people and now there are thousands that come to donate their time, energy, and money to help local families.”

With the Allmans leading by example, many agents in their realty group have also become strong individual supporters of charities in the Dallas area. Pierce says, “If you look at the list of institutions that the agents themselves are supporting, it’s astounding the panoply of civil and charitable enterprises that exist in Dallas. And in this era, frankly, when I think most folks are losing a little faith in the government or institutions, I find that this belief in our civil and service organizations is refreshing, because if we lose faith in those institutions, we lose faith in the future.”

This year, the Allmans have taken another great stand for giving by making Allie Beth Allman & Associates the title sponsor of the inaugural “D Gives” Initiative. And the company’s agents have supported them by selecting the initiative’s “Charities of Choice.”

The Allmans hope their call to give will extend beyond their agent family and inspire others in the Dallas area. Pierce says, “If you need to reinforce your faith in each other, or if you want to express your gratitude for what you’ve been given, or if it’s just compassionate action, to me, giving is part of a citizen’s responsibility. And that’s what we try to get across.”
