General manager and president of the Dallas Mavericks, Donnie Nelson, knows what he likes—whether it’s a potential recruit for the Mavs or what drink to pair with his favorite steak at Bob’s Steak & Chop House. Donnie has been a notable regular at Bob’s for years. He frequently stops by to meet friends and Mavs team members or to show off his favorite restaurant to potential and new team members for his championship basketball team. It’s not uncommon to find Donnie at the Omni Dallas, Plano, or Lemmon Avenue locations–that is when he’s not courtside at American Airlines Center, of course. Not sure what to order next time you’re at Bob’s? Here’s a taste of Nelson’s favorites.

What was your first introduction to Bob’s Steak and Chop House?
I first learned about Bob’s at a culinary clinic I attended.

How do you take your steak?
Medium-rare.

Which table does Bob’s have ready for you if they knew you are coming?
I’ll take any table with a fork and a view of the television.

Do you have a favorite or regular server?
At the Plano location, I ask for Silvio. At the Omni Dallas location, Rollie Fingers!

Do you go to Bob’s for business dinners or for a personal evening out with family?
Both. It’s my go-to recruiting spot for draft picks, free agents, staff meetings, international guests, and also for special family occasions.

I’ll take any table with a fork and a view of the television.

If we happened into Bob’s one evening, would we find you at the bar, chatting with other regulars?
I talk to everyone at all times. Unoccupied seats generally work best for me.

Carrot or no carrot?
The epic Flintstone carrots at Bob’s are an absolute must. What you don’t finish may not fit in a doggie bag!

Do you order your favorite sides in rotation, or do you choose the same one each visit?
I’ll mix it up. The sautéed mushrooms are the best ever. The creamed corn and loaded baked potato are epic.

Best dessert at Bob’s?
Carrot cake!

Drink of choice?
Devil’s River Whiskey, neat.

The pickled veggies in the middle of the table – yes or no?
Yes, I’m an official Bob’s pickle addict.

Who is your favorite person to dine with at Bob’s?
Anyone with a credit card.

In a city full of dining choices, what keeps you coming back to Bob’s time and time again?
The Côte de Boeuf, better known as the Tomahawk bone-in bam bam!
