The Star in Frisco

The Perot Museum of Nature & Science

On May 1, the Perot Museum of Nature & Science unveiled its “Maya: Hidden Worlds Revealed” exhibit. Artifacts on display include royal tombs and texts in ancient languages, comprising the largest traveling Maya exhibition to ever tour the U.S. at 10,000 square feet and more than 200 authentic artifacts. Be sure to catch this exhibit one weekend before it travels to its next stop on September 27.

May 4 – 7, 2017

On May 4, Fort Worth will kick off its annual Mayfest family-friendly festival that includes live music, food, carnival rides, a petting zoo, performing arts groups, paddle boating, rock-climbing, zip-lining, art, and more. And here’s something that makes it even more awesome: Admission to the 45th annual Mayfest will be free on Thursday, May 4, for all patrons, and on Friday, May 5, the first 45 people in line will receive a “Party Pass” that grants additional perks.

Dallas Children’s Theater

Starting on May 5 and running through May 27, the Dallas Children’s Theater will welcome audiences to its rendition of Roald Dahl’s James And The Giant Peach. Recommended for anyone age 5 and up, the theater will also hold ASL- and sensory-friendly performances.

George W. Bush Presidential Library & Museum

bluebonnetBeginning on May 6, the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum will offer Saturday bluebonnet tours on its grounds. The 15-acre urban park will host the free tours (weather permitting) along its one-mile walking trail network every Saturday at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., matching visitors with a library guide to ensure maximum wildflower viewing opportunities (and maybe a photo opp or two).

Trinity River Audubon Center

Ever dreamed of kayaking Dallas’ Trinity River? Thanks to the Trinity Audubon Center, you can! The Audubon Center offers a variety of outdoor offerings perfect for summer weekends, including adventure camps for kids that will have them hiking, tracking wildlife, and birding, plus activities like overnight camping, Owl Prowl night hikes, conservation treks, and both guided hikes and self-guided walking tours.

Addison Circle Park

Get your taste buds ready, because between May 19 and May 21, Addison’s best bars and restaurants will be putting their goods on display at the annual Taste Addison event. Though you can’t bring your lawn chairs, you can spread up a blanket and enjoy samplings of the more than 20 participating restaurants. You also won’t want to miss Vanilla Ice’s performance on Friday night.

We all know Dallas as the birthplace of the frozen margarita, which is why it should come as no surprise that there’s an entire festival dedicated to celebrating the deliciously salty libations.
