Don Daseke

Chairman, President and CEO of Daseke, Inc.

don-dasekeNot everyone has the responsibility of leading major trucking services in 49 U.S. states, Canada, and Mexico. But, we imagine if we had that job, we’d work up quite the appetite. That’s the story of Dallas 500 CEO Don Daseke, chairman, president, and CEO of Daseke, Inc. It’s the largest owner of open deck and specialized trucking in the United States. You’ll find he and his wife Barbara at the Dallas location of Bob’s Steak & Chop House at least twice a month. Chances are, they’re probably enjoying their date night, so privacy, please.

Where you do you like to sit when you dine at Bob’s?

We always sit at the same booth—booth No. 1.

What’s your go-to order?

We get the same thing each time…bleu cheese salad (which we split) and bone-in rib-eye (which we split), medium rare.

Business or pleasure?

We’ll occasionally have a business dinner there, but we are typically at Bob’s twice a month. It’s our date night.

Carrot or no carrot?

Yes, we both enjoy the carrot and the potatoes with onions.

Favorite server?

We often have the same server who always we remembers what we order.

Are you ever tempted by the pickled veggies in the middle of the table?

Barbara always has a red pepper. I’m just not a pepper person.

Standard drink order?

My wife has Chardonnay. I have water with no ice.

Let’s say booth No. 1 isn’t available. Would we find you at the bar, chatting with regulars or making friends?

We’ve never dined at the bar, but we regularly see friends there.

In a city full of fine dining options, what is it about Bob’s that keeps you coming back every month?

We always feel comfortable at Bob’s. We get friendly and efficient service, always a great steak, delicious carrots, a great salad, and yummy potatoes. We can enjoy dinner without feeling stuffed. And, we get our steak fix!

The big jar of sour balls. Do you ever grab a few on the way out? And if so, what flavor?

I always have one or two sour balls – sometimes one before dinner and one after dinner. No preference on flavor—I like them all! (Barbara abstains.)
